Stearoylbenzoylmethane (SBM), also known as 1-phenyl-1,3-eicosanedione, with molecular formula C₂₆H₄₂O₂, is an organic compound. Stearoylbenzoylmethane is a light white powder with no special odour, soluble in solvents such as toluene, acetone, trichloromethane and ethyl acetate, insoluble in water and hexane. Stearoyl benzoylmethane has the characteristics of high transmittance, non-toxicity, etc. It can be used as heat stabiliser to improve the performance of plastics, and it is widely used in the fields of pharmaceutical packaging and food packaging.

Application in PVC

① As a new type of PVC auxiliary heat stabilizer, with high transmittance, it is used in solid or liquid calcium/zinc, barium/zinc and other heat stabilizers and can greatly improve the initial colouring of PVC, transparency, long-term stability, as well as precipitation and "zinc burns" in the processing process, etc.; its characteristic is that there is a good synergistic effect of the zinc soap, adding in the formula. This product can effectively inhibit the "zinc burning", suitable for the implementation of the hard field, to promote the renewal of calcium / zinc composite stabiliser.

② It shows good synergistic effect with auxiliary heat stabilisers such as epoxidised soybean oil and phosphite. The recommended dosage is about 3-5% of the main stabilising dose of calcium, zinc soap or rare earth soap.

③ Processing and use should avoid the formation of dust and keep away from fire source.
